CROSSOVER SUNDAY

"Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects... all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil" Cover Blurb.

Death Note is a shining example of al that is wonderful about Manga. It is the first series I suggest to someone looking to give Manga a try. It explores the notion of power. What would an inceredibly smart and talented collepe prep student do witith the power of life and death? Ryuk a Shiningami God Of Death has dropped his Death Note in the human world.

This book has the power to cause death to any person whose name is writen in it. Light finds the book and has no hesitation using it to kill criminals. When Ryuk shows up to find his book he finds that light has been quite busy, having killed hundreds of criminals. Ryuk cannot retrieve the book from Light unless he willingly surrenders it. There are several other rules associated with the book that Ryuk is obligated to divulge to Light. Ryuk is a great character. He is coldly unaffected by Light's actions, he actually enjoys watching Light play out his plans. Make no mistake though Ryuk is not Light's ally, he is obligated to obey Light while he owns the book,bt as the series unfolds he takes as much entertainment in Light's defeats as his successes he is enjoying the whole process as entertainment. He also stay's for his favorite treat that only exists in the human world: Apples!

Light decides to use the book to rid the world of evil. Evil as he defines it. And he will stop anyone who gets in his way as well as use anyone to further his cause.

Thus begins a 13+volume epic. Light's actions cause a stir in the world. While many Japanese citizens rush to name him "Kira" a god of justice. A special task force on the Japanese police force trys to find and stop him. A force that happens to be run by Light's father!

This volume quickly introduces us to all the major players . The most eigmatic of these is "L" a quirky, sugar addicted, genius crime fighter.

The stage is set to laaunch an epic Cat and Mouse game between these two opposing forces.

This book crosses all genres,It is well written, action packed and in some scenes heartbreaking. The cast of characters are amazing, well realised. The art and words flow perfectly together. Twists and turns of this series lead to a climactic ending. I highly reccommend it :)
