Review : The Girl in The Steel Corset by Kady Cross

It rarely happens to me but after two months of reading over 30 books I was in a slump.Struggling with my current read I went to NETGALLEY. That's when i found this gorgeous cover and discovered Kady Cross's Steampunk adventure!

WHAT I LOVE

Kady has created such a rich world that she is completely comfortable in. There are a lots of strange machinery, family secrets and literary connections from some famous novels like Journey to the Center of the Earth and Dr. Jekyll & Mister Hyde. At its center though is strong characterizations and adventure.

We first meet Finley Jane at her place of employment in a rich household. It is London 1897 and she is on the cusp of being unemployed due to the unwanted advances of the young lord of the house Felix August- Raynes. Finley however will not be his victim. She surprises him with her strength and when he persists she beats him up!

Fleeing the house Finley literally Runs into Lord Griffin and his companion Sam. Finley chooses to stay at Griff's house along with his companions Sam: a literal clockwork man and Emily a brilliant inventor and doctor. The group work together to discover the secrets of Finley's past and to try to discover the nefarious plans of The Machinist the villain responsible for a brutal attack on Sam.

The true joy for me of Kady's writing is the characters. Whomever she switches her narrative voice to is full of fascinating emotions and mysterious pasts. I found myself wanting a full book dedicated to each of them. I especially liked Griff's powers in the Aetheric realm, a kind of universal energy that makes him very powerful but with a physical cost.

A wonderful read and a great book for those interested in the steam punk universe. I really want more of this amazing world and characters.

Thanks to Harlequin Teen and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

I love this cover too. I agree with your assessment of the characters. I wanted so much more from them--they were all so intriguing. Thank goodness this is a series.
