REVIEW: SIRENZ by Charlotte Bennardo & Natalie Zaman

This is such a fun read! Charlotte Bennardo & Natalie Zaman have created a fun YA read. Frenemies Meg and Shar are roommates that are as different as Pink  and Black! Shar is a fashion obsessed, Starbucks addict with an outgoing personality and an urge to shop!

Meg is more vintage with a little Goth and wears a  lot reclaimed / recycled fashion and shoes that make Shar cringe! Shar talks Meg into a midnight sample sale hoping that the two will bond over reduced retail  since they will both be roommate's in an advanced program for Senior in New York City. Things go bad quickly. After a quick lunch and an encounter with a dreamy guy the pair get into an tense argument over a pair of shoes!

The argument follows them to the subway and another encounter with the dreamy guy they met earlier. Next thing you know dreamy guy is dead and a shocked Meg and Shar are faced with Hades. Lord of the Underworld. He has a deal for them. Become his  Sirens: deliverers of his contracted clients to his realm when their time is up. In return they get a swank apartment, unlimited funds and he will make the whole "cute dead guy thing" go away.

The girls agree and they are off for there first target, reclusive fashion designer Arkady. And the hot dead  guy? His name is Jeremy and he is now very much alive and Mr. Arkady's assistant!

So now the girls must enforce the contract while dealing with the repercussions of their Siren powers, of yeah Hades desperately wants to get Shar alone. Just one night. Will Shar be tempted? and what of Meg who finds herself more and more attracted to Jeremy? There is also Hades constantly butting in and their lives and surprise appearances of a few Goddesses.

I really enjoyed this book and watching the development of the girls relationships. Shar is the standout of the book she really made me laugh! I really related to Meg though she reminded me a lot of myself . I also loved how each girl had a unique style and fashion sense. Meg a lover of all things black and Shar all things pink.

Bennardo and Zaman have a seamless writing style. Each chapter changes POV from Meg to Shar but their isn't a vast difference in writing styles. However I did think that Meg didn't really shine in the book. In her individually narrated chapters I really didn't get a full sense of who she was. Interestingly enough my best Meg scenes are the ones told in Shar's voice.

A great start to a series but all the plot elements are wrapped up in this first book.

I thought this one was fun. It was also nice to see a book about older teen girls that doesn't have any adult content (and isn't a christian novel).
thanks for the comments ladies yes Sirenz is fun and there is a sequel coming :)
