Welcome to Day 2! I'm so happy to have Brianna from THE BOOK VIXEN here today. She is going to share with us how a busy mom finds time to read and how she is encouraging her little ones to read:

Being a mom of 2 kids, with one on the way, definitely keeps me busy! I take my daughter to and from school each day and I entertain my son at home. And then there are the typical day-to-day household duties to keep up with as well. (I’m exhausted just from thinking about all this!) But I still manage to find time in my day to read. It’s like my crack. I need that escape.
Another time I’m usually able to fit in some reading time is when the kids are taking a nap. That is, if I don’t end up taking a nap myself.

I plan to encourage my own kids to read just as much as my mom encouraged me. Luckily for me, my kids love books. I make it a point to read them a bed time story each night. And to keep their interest going, we’re at the library every 2 weeks getting a new batch of books. For those books they’ve come to love so much, we buy them their own copy on special occasions.

Finding time to read as a busy mom
One way I get time to read is when I’m on the treadmill. I super size the font on my Kindle, attach my Kindle light and away I go. I wouldn’t be able to read a paperback or hardcover because I can’t afford to use both hands to hold a book while walking. Currently, I’m only walking on the treadmill. I’m about 6 months pregnant (as I type this) so there’s no way I’d be able to run with my baby belly. And if I were running, I doubt I’d be able to read and run at the same time. There’s a handy dandy little holder on my treadmill where my Kindle fits perfectly so I’m able to read hands-free. I just need to push the ‘next page’ button every so often.
Another time I’m usually able to fit in some reading time is when the kids are taking a nap. That is, if I don’t end up taking a nap myself.
And my last chance to read is during the short time after the kids are tucked in their beds at night. I say ‘short time’ because I’m usually asleep myself by 9-9:30pm.
Developing and instilling reading habits for my little ones
I love that my mom tried to get me to read when I was younger. She definitely encouraged me and never held me back from reading any book. (I once tried to read Needful Things by Stephen King when I was about 12 or so but I just couldn’t get into it.) Unfortunately, her efforts went unrewarded at the time. I just didn’t have any interest in reading then. Of course, that’s all changed now.
