FAMILY READING CHALLENGE DAY 5: COMICS AS GATEWAY READING W/GIVEAWAY

While my mother introduced me to books it was my father who introduced me to comics. My dad had been quite of collector of comics before he "grew up" and gave them up.While Saturdays were for the library a great number of Sunday's involved my dad taking us to our neighborhood pharmacy for ice cream and comics. I remember the coolness of the store on hot summer days and visiting the tall spinning racks of comics while waiting for my sundae or milkshake to be ready. I read tons of Archie, Richie Rich, Hot Stuff, Classic Illustrated and Disney comics.

Comics always appeal to children and  are a great way to encourage reading in general. Above are some of the great graphic novels available. Now with the advent of digital comics You can even read them with kids on Ipads and the nook color. Like all reading comics do best with parental encouragement. Join in with them in the experience. Seeing comics as a gateway to book reading will help children explore all forms of books and movies.

Today I have a six pack of comics featuring Archie, Spiderman and Mouse guard to give away.

My husband is a HUGE comic book fan. He has a couple thousand in his collection. He is also a very talented artist and has published his own with some friends of his. My daughter has since taken to drawing them too and loves to read them. Unfortunately, most of my husband's collection are not for kids so she doesn't have many to read. This would be an awesome prize for her because her favorite comic is Bone :) Thank you for the fantastic giveaway!
