REVIEW: STAR WARS DARK EMPIRE 1

Since that lights came on at my very first screening of Star Wars many a year ago I have been an adoring fan of the universe George Lucas has created. What is equally amazing and enjoyable is the Expanded Universe: a collection of books , and comics that really sustained us fans through the long wait between films and beyond. Friday is also Star Wars day at SDCC .
Dark Horse Comics is celebrating it's 25th Anniversary with Star Wars at this years Con. I'm excited to get some signed books and lots of great freebies. Dark Empire is an exploration of events 7 years after Return of the Jedi. It was published before the prequels were even confirmed. Great stuff!

It's amazing how much comics and books can add to the overall mythology of an established universe. In the case of Star Wars, Dark Horse has excelled in creating a rich addition to the series. In Dark Empire 6 years after the events in Return of the Jedi and Luke Leia and Han are still cleaning up after the battle against the last Death Star. Things aren't completely smooth though. A mysterious vortex has been attacking rebel holdings and Luke feels the hand of the Darkside behind the attacks. Luke decides to let the vortex take him and finds himself in the hands of the Emperor. Luke begins to study the ways of the Dark Side wrongfully thinking he could overcome its influence and strengthen his Jedi skills.

Leia and Han rush to his rescue and find themselves in tense danger filled situations. I really enjoyed this series when I read it over 10 years ago and it still stands the test of time. Tom Veitch has a great knowledge of all things Star Wars related and Cam Kennedy delivers some spectacular Art!.
