SUNDAY SALON: The Virtual Company of Readers

I love readathons! Mostly because I love the opportunity to make reading my "job" I just finished Dewey's 24 hour readathon and I'm happy with my total of 8 books read. I take Dewey's really seriously. I take the Saturday off , stock the fridge, and read. I also tend to put a little too much pressure on myself , so I worked really hard to NOT do that this year.

What draws me repeatedly to Readathon's however is the company. No one in my immediate friend and family circle are readers. I have one client who I see once a month who is book crazy and who has since become my ALA convention buddy. But on a daily basis my book "geeking" is done entirely online. Whether it's my comic book crew, my YA lovers, Zombie lovers or Horror fans, these tweeters and Facebook friends are wonderful lifelines for me.

With virtual readathons you get the ability to talk "live" with others, find out what they are reading, what their favorites are and also check out their blogs for their recent reviews.

So after yesterdays success I'm in a reading groove, just in time for this great event:

Week day readathons are a bit harder for me but I'm hoping to get at least 5 books read.

Happy Reading to everyone!

Way to go! 8 books is impressive. Have fun with the Horror read-a-thon.
I am impressed, as always, with your read-a-thon accomplishment. 8 books! Great job!

You're right about everything you said. The only person in the non-online world who loves to read is my mom, but she's still not as fanatical about it as I am. That's why I love my online bookish friends and the events that bring us together. I'm glad you're joining me for another read-a-thon. The sign in post is up for when you start reading...here: http://castlemacabre.blogspot.com/2012/04/spring-into-horror-read-thon-starting.html

Have fun this week!
