Movie Review: Beyond The Black Rainbow

"Rainbow" is a mind bending film. It's been a long time since I've seen a film that entrapped me in a directors vision. Director Panos Cosmatos equates the movies mood to his childhood memories of the late 70's and 80's. That intention bleed into every element of the film. The film looks dated. Every aspect of the set, clothing and even the flow of the movie is reminiscent of an 80's film. The movie focus around Elena. A young woman who is caged and studied. A strange eerie relationship is going on between her and Barry Nyle, a creepy captor who seems trapped by his own personal demons as well.

The plot in this film took a while to reveal itself to me. It was a winding trail lead aptly by Jeremy Schmidt's eerie score. The synthesized music is haunting, and is essential to the overall feel of the movie.

A memorable , albeit strange experience. Will inspire a variety of emotions in viewers.
