As Christmas draws nearer, we start to think of the shopping we have to do, the presents we have to buy, the things we have to wrap, and how totally over-budget we are going to be by January 1st. Even though we know we are slipping deeper and deeper into a personal deficit, we keep right on buying because we can imagine the joy and happiness on the faces of those we love. With this year’s economy being what it is, I thought this would be a wonderful time to make a few suggestions for gifts that will be truly memorable and won’t break the budget.

HERE ARE FIVE GIFTS OF LOVE THAT COSTS LITTLE BUT CREATES BIG MEMORIES…
1) Cookies or candy that you’ve made yourself – I do gingerbread men decorated to look like the person I’m giving them to (glasses, curly hair, etc)

2) Something you have sewn yourself – ideas include a barbeque apron for him, a jewelry travel pouch for her. Easy, easy stuff to make. One year I did Mother/Daughter aprons and they were the hit of the season.

3) A Make it yourself calendar with each month featuring a family photo, or if it’s for your sweetie, photos of the two of you doing fun stuff together. Add in personal reminders, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. This is always a favorite because it’s a year-round reminder of your love.

4) Give a pre-programed digital Christmas Ornament – you can find them on sale for under ten dollars and then just add favorite family pictures, or snaps of Christmases gone by. Guaranteed this gift will be hung smack in the center of the tree for all to enjoy.

5) Pick up a pet at an animal rescue center, tie a red ribbon around its neck and give it to your special someone. By rescuing an animal, you’ll be both giving and getting love. A pet is a lifetime reminder of your love and open-hearted generosity. And, it’s a gift that never stops giving.
