MINI-CHALLENGE

Today I'm going to be talking about how Aromatherapy can bring enjoyment and relaxation to your Holiday Season.

One of my favorite Aromatherapy companies is AURA CACIA . They have a wonderful website full of recipes for you to try. I like Aura Cacia because of the quality of their oils, their accessibility ( available at Whole Foods and other supermarkets), and their affordable price points.

A few warnings about using essential oils:

Always do a skin test on your wrist to check for allergies. Testers at the store are great for this.

Wash your hands after usage and avoid touching your face and eyes.

Quality of oils effect the price. If it is a high quality organic oil it will cost more.

Buy a separate set of mixing bowls, bottles, etc for blending oils or making aromatherapy products.

Keep oils in a cool , dry place.

Here are some of my favorite oils and tips on how to use them:

Rosemary

A natural antiseptic. I add a few drops of this too unscented hand wash for a wonderful smell and germ protection.

                                                Clove Bud

In the olden days cloves were placed in Oranges for an aromatic addition to the room. I combine Clove and Sweet Orange for a wonderful holiday smell.

Spearmint & Peppermint

Very invigorating! I add a few drops of either of these oils in a spray bottle with some distilled water and spray it on myself and the car for an energy boost.

Lavender

A whiff of Lavender is a many oasis for a busy Holiday Season. you can add drops to your bath, a distilled water spray or my new favorite trick place a few drops on bookmarks, let dry and add a wonderful component to your reading experiencing.

I also highly suggest this wonderful book to learn more about using  aromatherapy year round

I like the smell of cinnamon and tea tree oil. Not together but they have a certain scent that puts me in a festive mood. I use tea tree oil to relax me and cinnamon more frequently in foods. I prefer the smell over the taste, though.

Peppermint and cinnamon remind me of Christmas.

I loove Starbucks peppermint white hot chocolates they make December awesome.

Also one of the Five brand gums taste like how Christmas smells to me. I can't really explain it or remember the flavor.

I love the smell of pine and gingerbread during this season.

Peppermint and Pine are always there to bring in the festivities. But it's always the Italian Christmas Cookies baking that do it. :)

My favorite holiday scent is the scent of spices and gingerbread. Nothing evokes the season more to me than the scent of gingerbread baking and the wonderful smell of all those spices.

Christmas Cinnamon Vanilla scent

2 Oranges
1 Cup Fresh Cranberries
1 Cinnamon sticks
1 small handful whole cloves
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
water to cover mixture

Cut oranges into eight pieces and place in small 2-4 quart slow cooker.

Add remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on HIGH for two hours.
Step Three

Remove lid and continue cooking for as long as you desire. Add water as needed to cover mixture. Let the aroma of Christmas fill your house. If you would like to store, place in an airtight container and keep in the refrigerator no longer than a week. You can place back into the slow cooker and crock again on HIGH.

Cookies, well, sugar cookies to be exact.

I have really bad allergies, so I tend to avoid anything that has too much scent. =)
Hullo, I've stopped by for the Readathon mini-challenge :) It is very hard to pick one scent, but I keep coming back to pine trees. The smell invokes lovely snow-covered winter landscapes for me, which are one of my favourite parts of the holiday season.

I think I'll have to go with pine trees also. On a more unusual note, I can't think of Christmas without thinking of the smell of a hot glue gun, because when I was a kid I always spent a big chunk of the Christmas break crafting with my Mom.
