SUNDAY SALON: Preparing for the New Year

Hello everyone! Tomorrow is New Years Eve and I've been thinking a lot about my typical NewYear's traditions. I usually spend a great deal of time cleaning my house top to bottom sorting thru old paperwork and working on resolutions. this year so far I haven't done any of it. I've been so busy and after I finish work tomorrow all I feel like doing is going to the movies and reading!

I realise a lot of the old traditions Ifollow are based on rituals my mother practiced and habit. This year I'm going to go at it a bit differently. I'll admit to feeling a little nervous about not following my normal traditions but I'm going to focus on doing a mental and physical "clearing out"

In the December LA Yoga there is an amazing article by Michael Beckwith about setting intentions. As we end the year it's amazing to look back and see how some of our wishes for the year came true and others didn't . Dr. Beckwith talks about this in the article. He explains that an external wish list is less effective than quiet introspection of what we really yearn for and listening quietly for answers that will guide us towards or goals,

So tomorrow I will spend a lot of time reflecting on what I truly want to create in 2013 and creating a plan to make it happen. I'll also be working on my blogging goals for next year. I'm really happy with the number of books, graphic novels and manga I read last year : over 300! But I'm really looking to not have an overflowing shelf of unread books.

It's interesting how my book shelf became crowded once again. I won't be attending any ALA events next year so my goal is to read the 140 physical books I have on my shelf and then attack my e-reader! I'm also going to only check out no more than 3 library books at a time and just keep adding to my steadily growing library wish list.

What about you guys, what are some of your New Years traditions or goals for the New Year?

December Shorts: Winner Lose All by Timothy Zahn

E-Book Prequel to Scoundrels
PUBLISHER:

Scoundrels is one of the most anticipated Star Wars novels in quite some time. Dubbed Oceans Eleven meets Star Wars, Scoundrels stars Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando  and an assorted gang of other Scoundrels :)
To rev up anticipation and give potential readers a glimpse of some of the major players in the novel there have been a few short stories, including this one.
Winner lose all finds Lando low on funds and looking to win one of the galaxies biggest sabbac games. In the midst of qualifying Lando runs into two old friends: Bink and Tavia. These two female thieves are a part of the event for their own agenda until a shocking plot is discovered that requires them all to come together to save Bink's hide.
I really enjoyed this story. I had recently read the short story Heist by Timothy Zahn in the recent Star Wars Insider so I was familiar with Bink and Tavia. My one complaint is that I would have liked a lot more Lando in this story. It's wonderful that two great female characters like Bink and Taqvia are now in the Star Wars Universe but They really overshadowed Lando in his own novella! Still a great read and I cant wait to get Scoundrels!
