The Fort is one of those books that I probably would have missed if I wans’t a Blogger. The Fort isn't my normal reading Genre but the book sounded great and its a  Summer themed read ,so I decided to give it a shot. It’s summertime , 1987 and childhood friends Tim, Luke and Scott are planning on enjoying many summer daysrelaxing in their fort and working on their shooting skills with  air rifles.

On one of these days the three boys witness something shocking : a young girl being dragged through the woods with a gun dug into her back, being pushed along by a man the boys have never seen before. The dark haired girl however looks like missing neighborhood  girl Molly Peterson. The boys are briefly shocked then realize the must somehow intervene. As fate would have it one of the boys has brought a real rifle to the fort, “borrowed “ from his stepdad’s cellar.

Tim tries and fails to take aim and Luke then takes charge shooting the attacker in the leg, yet failing to stop him. The boys then rush home to do the responsible thing: call the police.

When the cops come for the boys they separate them and interrogate them. With the exception of the shooting ( which all the boys agree not to talk about) the boys tell the exact same story. Yet no one believes them. The boys are let go and stern punishments ensue. The trio however find the courage to continue the investigation on their own despite the danger.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a very quick and satisfying read. There were some really intense scenes with the kidnapper and his victim. Each of the boys characters were fully fleshed out and I enjoyed the interaction between them. There was a definite Stand by Me vibe to the overall story and a bittersweet  ending.
