Hinterkind is a wonderful book for fans of fantasy & dystopia.the story opens fifty seven years after a biological event that wiped  out a large amount of humanity. The surviving humans find themselves on an earth that has reverted back to an almost primal level. The humans also find that the Hinterkind have returned. Centaurs, Elf’s, Trolls Vampires, Werewolves. Creatures from stories and nightmares now walk the Earth and they aren’t looking to share it.
In this world a young woman and her best friend leave the security of a human encampment, and begin a quest that will show them the true state of the wilder world.
I loved the art on this book! It’s a character all it’s own. There is a lot of action in this first volume along with some engaging world building. I felt of this story as a fantasy/dystopia version of The walking Dead. The situations are fantastical but the human element is what makes the story work.
A very solid start to the series.
