Summer is a great time to add middle grade reads to your TBR pile. They are quick reads with fun characters perfect for the beach! There are some really fun story ideas being brought to life in the middle grade universe from a variety of authors and artists. In this book we meet JD, alias for John Doe. He is the sole occupant of an orphanage that has just recently gone bankrupt. The head of the orphanage finds a book in the box that JD was left in and the pair learn that He is the son of Frankenstein.
Showing up at Victor Frankenstein's house JD meets Fran who upon seeing the journal hatches a plan to make her own creature using the limbs of those connected to the deceased that make up JD.
On a quest to stop her JD races across various locations forming familial bonds with the people he saves.

This was a fast cute read. I loved JD’s spirit and there are enough gross bits to keep young fans of series like Goosebumps happy. Great messages about creating extended families and a little bit of humor.
