As I write this post I’ve just finished watching Ultimate Spiderman Season 2 and am starting Chowder Season 3 so binge watching has become a part of my life. Here are my Top 5 Binge worthy shows:

Classic Who

Vintage Doctor Who is wonderful, cheesy, inventive, cheesy and wonderful!!! I’ve really been enjoying watching the evolution of the show.

The Clone Wars

This is one of my favorite series. Now with all six seasons on Netflix its easy to drop in for a Clone Wars fix whenever I like.

Batman: The Animated Series

My first and best binge watching experience. These episodes never get old. A must watch for Batman fans. I also highly suggest listening to The Arkham Sessions, an excellent podcast that breaks down the various psychological elements relating to Batman’s mission and his rogues gallery.

Attack On Titan

I’m so obsessed with this show! I’ve seen the Japanese version and the English dubbed version. I’m filling my wait for season two with binge reading the manga.

Ultimate Spiderman

I just finished this series and I really enjoyed it. Not only do you get some wonderful Spider-Man adventures, you also get Agent Coulson from SHIELD and some other great heroes. Really going to miss the supporting characters from this show but I will move on to Ultimate Spider-Man Web Warriors.

Happy Friday! I hope you get some good binges in this weekend!

Spotlight On: Ready Player One

I decided to not do a traditional review for this book. RPOne  has had tremendous press and is universally loved so all I could add to that was : YEP!! It’s all true! I devoured this book in one day. It was impossible to put it down and I was so drawn to the characters I became deathly afraid for them when things got rough. This book also has an amazingly satisfying ending.

Other Things I loved

The Diversity. Not just in the race of the various characters but also for their status in life and personalities. The main female lead in this book is judged by her talent for the game and not her sex.

The Language. I often have some problems with the language in YA books when you have a group of boys together. I find some writers use a lot of derogatory language and profanity because “that’s how boys talk”. Cline avoids that spectacularly. Since it’s set in the future Cline has created some words to express trash talking and such but other than that the book is wonderfully free of excessive foul language.

Full Circle Journey’s

All of the main characters in this book have issues that they try to escape from in the virtual world of Oasis, yet by the books end all the characters have faced their biggest fears and overcome them because of their friendship with each other.

Five Stars all around! If you haven’t read this book yet bump it to the top of your TBR pile.

Review: Rain of the Ghosts by Greg Weisman

Greg Weisman has written and directed some of my favorite animated series: Gargoyles and Young Justice. I don’t know how I missed the fact that he has written two novels, starring the character of Rain Cacique! I met Greg at Wondercon last month and picked up the first book in the Ghosts series.

Rain is a young girl on the cusp of her teenage years. She lives in an island community called the Prospero Keys that is a large tourist community.

Rain discovers that there is more to her community then she ever knew. Especially after she is gifted a bracelet fashioned in the shape of two gold snakes intertwined. After receiving the bracelet Rain finds that she can see ghosts and that she is the key figure that can unlock ancient mysteries of her island home.

I really loved how easily the narrative of this book unfolded. Weisman has a knack for writing the vernacular and motivations of young adults. The various characters motivations and emotional responses are very genuine  . Rain and her best friend Charlie are at an age that many of us remember fondly.  An age where magic discovered is accepted and even treasured.

I also loved the Racial diversity of the main character. A quick but satisfying read. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel.
