Review: Vader's Castle 1,2, & 3 by Scott, Charm, Fenoglio

Creators: Cavan Scott, Derek Charm, Chris Fenoglio, Robbie Robbins, Francesco Francavilla

I fell in love with this series once I saw the cover at at San Diego Comic-Con. This anthology series brings together various artists with a script by Cavan Scott.

In the Opening pages we meet Lina Graf and her crew on the run from the Empire. Those familiar with Cavan Scott's work will recognize the Graf name as Lina and her brother were the stars of a series of books set in wild Space.

Lina is a young adult in this series and is part of the Rebel Alliance. After a crash landing on Mustafar not far from Vader's imposing castle.

Various crew members relate creepy stories and the first on stars Chopper, Kanan and Hera from Rebels. As the trio embark on a rescue mission they find a strange energy presence on a ship that takes over Chopper! The art on this story is amazing. Lot's of atmospheric lighting add to the creepiness of the story overall. The ending pages take us once again to Lina and her crews story.

In issue two of the series we go super Gothic when another member of Lina's crew shares a story with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Adi Gallia and Count Dooku during the Clone Wars.

Of Course Dooku is holed up in a fortress with a bat entity named Ravna who he thinks will use his vampire like control powers to help the separatists . And of course evil bat demons have their own plans and turn on their allies! There are so many homages to the horror genre in this issue which is appropriate considering Christopher Lee's connection to the genre. I loved the climactic battle and the gorgeous art.

Issue three returns us to the world of Young Han Solo! Solo takes an easy job delivering a statue to the planet Rendel. A job no one else will take and one that pays a million credits. Oh our sweet naive young Solo. Of course the land on a planet littered with the wrecks of other ships gullible to take the same mission he has  and things get even worse when the strange thorny vines that cover the planet begin to sap the life out of solo and Chewbacca aging them prematurely.

I loved the haunted forest/witch trope in this story. It fits so well into the world of Star Wars. The script in this one was so fun and captured the aspects of the partnership of Han and Chewie that I loved in the Solo film. As with the other issues we also see the continuation of Lina and her crews story. So excited for the last two issue in this story!
