My rating: href="">3 of 5 stars

Special Thanks to Tor Books for sending me this ARC! Blood Song is Book 1 of the Bloodsinger series. This book is a collaboration by the Authors C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp.

"Bodyguard Celia Graves plies her trade in a world where vampires roam the alleys of Tinsletown. Celia uses street smarts and charmed weapons to protect the rich and famous from mortal and supernatural threats. When things go horribly wrong on her latest job she becomes bitten by a master Vampire and survives... her master is now hunting her to destroy her or finish what his bite began...

Since the book is being released this month (June 2010) I wanted to get the review out promptly:

I've taken a break from the Vampire genre recently, mostly due to burnout, so I was looking forward to discovering this novels, Vampires or "Bats" as Celia calls them :) This book does not disappoint. In a mere 41 pages Cat has firmly established Celia's world and established her quest. Though the action necessarily slows at times as Celia learns about her status, I was drawn in to see what would happen next.

Celia's world is also populated with Ghosts, Psychics, Werewolves; and all of these friendships are needed and even tested in the face of her condition. There is great tension in the scenes where Celia is discovering and fighting her new found Vamp powers. She is unique in the fact that Abominations rarely survive. As her family gets drawn into the Cat & Mouse game her Maker is playing, Celia learns secrets about herself and her family as she gears up for a final confrontation with the Master.

This book was an enjoyable read. I would have liked more action but the ending leaves the promise of more battles to come.

C.T and Cathy's writing is seamless. I'm always impressed at how dual writers can create an almost seamless narrative voice. In the beginning I was concerned that Celia was another tough as nails sarcastic heroine but little touches in her characterization that make her stand out. Now that Celia's world is firmly defined I look forward to seeing what the future holds for her
