12 Days Day 1 :WINNER!!

THANKS FOR ALL THE ENTRIES AND THE NEW FOLLOWERS :)

THE WINNER IS ALLY!!

Welcome To Day 1 of Twelve Days!
I will be using the  wonderful book The Winter Solstice:The Sacred Traditions of Christmas by John Matthews as a reference for all of my posts.

I've added many new activities to my Holiday Celebrations since I bought this book :)

Traditionally celebrated December 26th the first day on
Days was known for 3 main events:

Boxing Day: A British tradition of giving a Christmas Box to servants.

Saint Stephen's Day +Day of the Wren

I didn't know much about this tradition until I read this book. According to legend Stephen was a servant of King Herod. He followed the star of the nativity and dedicated himself to sharing his new found faith with distant countries Legend also states that in order to travel great distances easily Stephan traveled with a string of 5 horses: two red, two white and one dappled when one horse got tired he would change horses and keep going. As a result many of the celebrations and stories surrounding Saint Stephen emphasise the Horses contribution to man.

Now for my first Interview! One of my favorite bloggers is the lovely Melina of

Melina is an avid reader and blogger. She consistently does great reviews and finds creative ways to host giveaway's. Now to the interview:

Do you like to read any Holiday themed books? if so are there any you re-read every year?

My favorite holiday themed book is Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole

Christmas. I love how Dr. Seuss uses all those made-up words and the drawings are super creative. The best character by far is Max the dog. And I am a sucker for a happy ending.

What are some of your favorite Holiday traditions?

Every year my parents let my brother and I dress in pajamas when they drive

us around the see all the holiday lights. We bring chocolate chip cookies to eat and we
sing along to a CD of kids holiday songs. Travis and I also get to help put

up our retro aluminum Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. It's hilarious when
people come to visit and they see our shiny silver tree with the color wheel light. It's like a disco party around here!

I know you love books, but what other type of presents do you like to receive?

Besides books, I like I tunes gift cards (I got an I pod last year) and craft supplies. Books are number one though.

What book or books are on your wish list this year?

In 2011, I am looking forward to reading The Iron Queen, Darkest Mercy, and Shimmer.

Somehow I seem to managed to post the first comment !

On the Christmas type books, I don't read or re-read any specific ones but I do think that Dicken's A Christmas Carol must rank high on any readers list of the best.

Thanks for the giveaway and for opening it to worldwide entries.

What a fun interview! I love driving around with my family looking at the Christmas lights. Even though we're both older now, we go every year. It's followed by cocoa and a holiday movie marathon :) As for books, I always end up rereading Pride and Prejudice, and The Polar Express.

Thanks for the giveaway

I'm a new follower, so I'm not sure if it counts. Possible +4
