A Christmas Carol is another holiday favorite of mine. All of my experiences however have been with movies, TV series and even cartoons (Mr.Magoo's is one of my favorite versions)  I had never read the book until now. One of the first things that struck me about this story is how visually descriptive it is. I was clearly able to visualise climactic scenes from the movies. I also spent a great deal of time looking up some references in the back of the book! the most surprising part of the story for me was the narrator.

I honestly can't say I really enjoyed the narrator talking directly to the reader, but there were moments when the narrative fit very nicely. Despite knowing the story I still felt the stories message quiet deeply.  The Narration also emphasises the Ghost aspects of the story. It's easy to forget during the story that the Spirits are actually ghosts and Scrooge is essentially being haunted. This is emphasised in the description of the first ghost and in the final one. It was so enjoyable to finally read the book. Dickens was very much a populist author, he knew how to tell a story that would be enjoyable by all. A wonderful read.
