Spotlight On Fiction For Boys REVIEW: STORM RUNNERS by Roland Smith

Storm Runners was a very interesting contemporary middle grade read. Chase Master and his father live in silence about a painful past: the death of his Mother and Sister. Then one day Chase's Father is struck by lighting and is inspired to become a Storm Runner. Now he and chase live in a mobile homestead . they drive town to town tracking storms and doing repairs. Now chase has found a family and a young woman he would like to know better as a monstrous storm threatens to tear everything away.
I really enjoyed Chase's character. He is very flexible and self sufficient despite his young age. He takes his fathers constant traveling in stride. there is a cold practicability about him for one so young . These skills serve him well as he and his new found friends are trapped by a dangerous storm. Great action and a bit of a cliffhanger, This book would really engage young male readers.
