One of my favorite panels at SDCC 11 Was the Simon & Schuster Spotlight Panel where I heard about William Joyce's new series of boos called Th Guardians of Childhood. these books feature the icons who filled all our minds and hearts as children: The Man in the Moon, The Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Sandman. Now we get to see the origin stories behind some of our favorite child hood stories. I also won the book and a gorgeous limited art print signed by William Joyce!!

In this story we learn about MIM and his parents. They are explores who travel through space in their ship that looks like a moon. MIM"s is a childhood full of love and protection provided by his companion Nightlight.

Pitch, the King off Nightmares hears a rumour about MIM , that he has never been touched by scary dreams. Dark becomes obsessed with finding MIM and destroying his peaceful life. Thus an epic chase begins that leads both sides to an ancient Earth, a blue world lacking a moon.

As the dust settles MIM finds himself alone, though he feels the loving energy of his parents in the night sky. MIM explores the  world outside of his destroyed ship. He tidies up his moon causing it to shine stronger on the Earth. Years pass and he becomes  attached to the children of earth whom he views through his telescope.
MIM also scours the world and puts together a team that will help alleviate the fears Pitch created in the little ones: Santa  Claus. The Tooth Fairy and Mother Goose.  MIM is always on guard for the planet Earth and the children he has come to love and desire to protect.

The art in this book is stunning , with enough prose to engage an independent reader as well as family reading time. This book really touched me with its gorgeous illustration's that invite one to float into MIM's world.

I loved everything about this book and am looking forward to the continuing adventures in the series.
