This was an absorbing, delightful read! From the opening pages Addison deftly steers the reader through a richly textured fantasy world seen through the eyes of Maia a young half goblin who has lived his life in exile. There are so many factors that endear the reader to Maia almost instantly. His isolated life, the near constant verbal and mental abuse he receives from his cousin Setheris, his threadbare clothes and general innocence.

So when Maia is instantly thrust into the political limelight as the next Emperor, I found myself instantly concerned for him. How would this gentle soul survive ?

That is the crux of this adventure and watching Maia grow was a very satisfying reading experience. Addison is a master world builder. As a fantasy fan one of the most enjoyable experiences is being guided through an authors fictional landscape. Addison consistently surprised me with the direction of this story and the court intrigues while showing readers the power in being your true self.

A wonderful read!
