Review : Raven The Pirate Princess Volume 1

Creators: Jeremy Whitley, Ted Brandt, Rosy Higgins

Raven made her first appearance in Jeremy's excellent series Princeless. Now she has her own series! Raven is putting together a crew to get revenge against her brothers who convinced her father to lock her in a tower to await rescue by a prince.

Raven has a ship but needs a crew and her quest for one will lead her to some secrets from her past and the revelation that she is not the only woman craving adventure. The art in this book is so fantastic. Their are women of all sizes shapes and ethnicities.

Jeremy delivers an amazing script that spotlights each woman's hopes and goals and the frustrations they face on a daily basis. Raven is an enjoyable book for all ages and genders but she especially speaks to the young girls with a spirit of adventure, the girls who tied red sheets around their necks imagining they were Superman or other icons of adventure. I'm loving reading this series again.
