I picked up this book because i was a huge fan of Pride &Prejudice and Zombies. I met Seth at a signing and relly enjoyed hearing him talk. He explained the genesis of the book. He was seeing lots of biographies and documentary's about Lincoln's 200th Birthday. At the same time Twilight fever was at its's peak and he found those two concepts playing around in his brain. Abraham Lincoln And Vampires.



For a writer of Seth's talent this concepts couldn't resist finding themselves onto the written page. The book shows an immense amount of research and attention to the times Abraham lived in . The action scenes are very well written. The fight scenes are bloody , quick and exciting! Seth shows Abraham's tranistion from a rage infused revenge killer, to a mature systematic killing machine. Abe's vow to rid America from vampires drives him to public office to the presidency and inevitable the Civil War,since the Southern states harbor many finicial ties with the Vampires.

Abraham Lincoln had many hardships in his life and many emotional ups and downs. Most of his experiences are told thru journal format.



I appreciate Seth's attention to detail but I felt like I was reading more of a biography than a fiction thriller. It is intriguing how Seth linked slavery, vampires and The Civil War but I felt the book dragged. The scenes when Abe is hunting vampires are the best in the book. I also enjoyed the character of Henry Abe's shadowy Vampire mentor who assists him in tracking down the most viscous of Vampires.



I confess I was able to predict the ending which is quite rare for me. The premise for this novel was brilliant but I would rather have it be a long novella than a complete novel. I look forward to future books By Seth Grahame -Smith but not in this same vein. (HA! no pun intended)
