MINIChallenge : reflections on The Chronicles of Prydain

My favorite childhood memory books were The chronicles of Prydain. These amazing books chronicled the adventers of taran assistant pigkeeper to a powerful wizard. I remeber loving these books so much they were my first real fantasy series. There was a wonderful sassy Princess, Eilonwy who was a very strong smart female character. She is very reminescent of Hermione, there was the wonderful character Gurgi always looking for "crunching and munchings". The black cauldron was disasterously adapted by Disney but the entire series is a gem. My favorite memory is of the book Taran Wanderer. This is the next to last book in the series. In this quiet introspective novel before the climactic end of the series Taran spends time alone traveling and learning about himself and the dark dangerous battle to come. It is a souful almost buddhist journey,beautifully done. I highly suggest the whole series and just talking about it makes e want to read them all again !
