I love Hercule Poirot's sidekick, Hastings (Agatha Christie)- an excellent foil to that big ego!

I will have to say Ron and Hermione from Harry Potter.

I'd have to say Seth from the Wicked Lovely series is my favorite sidekick. He's the best supporting romantic interest I've seen in a while and it's great that the girl goes for the human not the vamp/fairie/werewolf etc once in a while.

Oh! Po from Graceling by Kristin Cashore! He is Katsa's sidekick-slash-partner AND romantic partner. And he is WONDERFUL!

So easy for me...My favorite sidekicks, from Lonesome Dove, are Gus and Woodrow.

I have to pick these two.

I'm a Texan.

I am reading Heist Society by Ally Carter right now, and I am loving the dynamic between Hale and Kat. I can not really tell if there is some Romantic interest there but the work these two do together is great. And him getting her expelled from school at the beginning is more than worth it.

I go for Westley from The Princess Bride. He'll do anything for Princess Buttercup. And he's strong and handsome. What more do you want?

I would have to say Simon from The Mortal Instruments Series!

Nawat Crow, from The Trickster Duet by Tamora Pierce.

He was a crow that became a man, and fell in love in Ally, and she with him.

The Darkings, cute tiny magical black blobs that can think and talk and move are a close second.

They were first introduced in "The Immortal's Quartet" and showed up again, towards the end of Trickster's Queen.

I'm going to have to say that one of my favorite sidekicks (who also happens to be a love interest) is Simon from The Mortal Instruments series. I love that boy in so many ways. TEAM SIMON!!

My favorite sidekick (lately) is Lucy from the Drake Chronicles by Alyxandra Harvey. Although Lucy is one of the MC's in the first book, she is a sidekick to the Vampire Princess and in the second book she only has a paragraph or two of lines. But all of them combined? Worth it. I love her, she makes me laugh and she's so genuine. A great vampire series all together.

copy and paste = Fiction State of Mind wants us to tell them about our favorite sidekick character. Ooohh… thinking… there’s some really good ones out there, but I must chose Hermione from Harry Potter. I know, I know, but I love her. She’s such a little know it all. She kinda like a little mini-me! And I love she thinks the boys are always so stupid. They’re boys, of course they are! :)

Everyone is leaving such great comments. I'm going to say Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices. You would not believe how thrilled I am that he is immortal and can be in both series.

I'm going to have say Grandma Mazur from the Stephanie Plum books. She's hilarious, and without her the series wouldn't be as funny.

My favourite sidekick - John Watson from the Sherlock Holmes stories, of course!

Without Watson then the books wouldn't be told, would they? And the mysteries wouldn't be so much fun and adventurous!

My favourite sidekick? Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings. Frodo is quite right (in book and movie both) when he says that the quest would have failed without him.

I'm reading Mockingjay so only Peeta and Gale are on my mind as sidekicks... They're both great, even if I do remain a loyal Team Peeta girl. :-) Other sidekicks I love are Buffy's - can anyone beat Willow and Xander?

With so many great sidekick out there I have a hard time picking one. So I have two from a series I finally caught up with recently, The Dresden files. One is Harry Dresden's skull Bob who loves romance novels and Harry's dog Mouse who may actually be more powerful than him.

I'm going to say Adam and Sam fro the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. They always get Mercy out of trouble and help her any way they can.

I have to agree, Hermione and Ron are the best *heart*
i'd have to say that my favorite would have to be Rahel and Estha from The God of Small Things. they are just amazing together, particularly when they are kids.

another good one that comes to mind is Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger games trilogy. i just love their "relationship" together.

I have to go with Dr. John H. Watson, if not the original sidekick, then one who set the standard, and his narrative heir Archie Goodwin.

mer_elliott (at) shaw (dot) ca
My favs side kicks are the Jules Watson´s White Mare: Caithleen, (Rihann lost and fund little half-sister
Eremon, Rihann´s husband
Conaire, Eremons Brother

Nice reading :D

My ALL-Time champion sidekick can only be Marvin from The HitchHiker's guide to the Galaxy.
Marvin the Paranoid Android is the No.1 most depressed creature in the universe - his unparalleled computing power is put to frequent low-usage tasks like showing visitors to the Bridge of the ship.

He is hilarious, and the book wouldn't have been the same without Marvin's acerbic commentary.

I think I would say Ron and Herminone too! But in Hunger Games I loved Gale and Rue. :) I think there is probably a side kick I enjoy and sometimes love in a majority of books.

Well, since I'm rereading the Mediator series right now, I'll have to go with:

Father Dominic: A priest who can (also) see ghosts, and thinks that they should be helped gracefully to the other side. The MC (Suze) thinks that sometimes, they need a little push.

Jesse: The ghost who lives in Suze's room. He's Spanish, has a six pack, is definitely a love interest, and helps out with his super-ghostly powers when Suze is in trouble (with the cryptic explanation 'you called me').

Spike: The demon cat that Suze rescued from a field because a little ghost boy couldn't move on til he was safe. Unlike all other animals, he's quite content to be around Jesse-the-ghost. And then can't stand Suze; he hisses every time she comes near if Jesse isn't there beside her.

My answer's here, but it's easy enough to say here too: Mervyn Bunter, from Dorothy L. Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey series.

From the "In Death" series by Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb: Roarke as romantic lead and Peabody as sidekick. I adore them both -- for vastly different reasons.

From the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb: Roarke for romantic foil; Peabody for sidekick. Both wonderful characters.

I've been on a Stephanie Plum kick lately, so I'd have to give a nod to Lula and Grandma Mazur... to be honest I probably the secondary characters now that I'm on book 11 (I can only enjoy the Morelli/Ranger back and forth romance triangle for so long). But Janet Evanovich always writes the bestest, funniest sidekicks!

For me that would be Suze, Becky Bloomwood's BFF on Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella, because she embodies what a true BFF could be, not always giving up to Becky's favor and reminds her what's the rightful thing to do but she's a fun BFF too and not a bore at all even if she's married and with a child.
