REVIEW/ GIVEAWAY NIGHTFALL by Ellen Connor
This is going to be a challenging review for me. Last month Author Anne Aguirre put a call out on twitter. She was offering to send a cop of Ellen Connor's new book Night Fall to 10 bloggers. I'm a huge fan of Anne's so I immediately sent an email and I got the book a few days ago and .. it's wonderful!!!!
My challenge is I don't want to give too much away! One of the most enjoyable things about this book was I had no preconceived notions of what it was about or where the narrative was going. I just hung on and become totally engrossed in this novel .
Ellen Connor is the pen name of Anne Aguirre and Carrie Lofty ( how clueless was I!). The first in a trilogy the book is set in a contemporary setting with Paranormal and Romance elements.
It begins in the East Coast. Power grids go down strange rumors begin to circulate. Machinery shuts down refusing to work: Televisions Cellphones, Cars fail and strange creatures walk the lands. In the city of Culver Jenna is far removed from the troubles on the East Coast so she thinks. After a lifetime of her fathers rantings and research into his theories about the worlds collapse, his predictions have come to fruition.
Jenna finds herself abducted by a scarred ex-marine called Mason. he is keeping a promise to her deceased father to keep Jenna safe. Safety to Mason is a remote cabin in the woods stocked with enough food and ammunition for two people to last a brutal winter. Mason has prepared for everything except for the overwhelming physical attraction he feels towards Jenna and the strange power that grows between them.
He pushes his feelings down focus on the task at hand: Survival. Things change dramatically when five strangers find their way to the desolate cabin and Jenna makes the decision to let them into their refuge. Now resources strained they must move out into to surrounding area hunting for food . This is no random meeting. As the group forms an uneasy alliance and shared goals Jenna begins to remember her fathers strange predictions that seem to be tied to each of the members of her group.
This book is a perfect blend of action and romance. This new world is populated by terrifying bloodthirsty creatures intent of consuming our small band . I loved the romance between Jenna and Mason . Their attraction ripples of the pages and there are some really hot romantic interludes finely balanced with conflict and uncertainty. I love a good romance where the tension between the two characters builds and build so that you are anxiously awaiting their first kiss as much as they are ;)
Anne and Carrie are a seamless writing pair. Their are the hallmarks of many other Aguirre books: Strong, capable heroines and heart racing action, but their is also introspective moments between these characters that move their relationship forward.
So many twists and turns . I really was fearful for the fate of this group, I'll admit to a little anxious peeking at the end pages to see if things were going to end they way I wanted them to! I'm sooo looking forward to the next two books in the series:
A little tip though don't read the cover blurbs of the next two books until you've read this one it gives away a little bit of the plots for the characters introduced in this book.
