When BOOK JOURNEY Put out the call for bloggers to join her  for her Banned Book spotlight I knew I wanted to be a part of it and I also knew which book I wanted to review.So here are my thoughts on Lush, and don't forget to enter the giveaway for an Amazon GC at the end of the post:

I was drawn to this book for very personal reasons. My mother was an alcoholic. I can say this now but as a young girl I really didn't know what was going on. My mother's moods were changeable, there were angry whispered fights between her and my father, many late nights wondering where she was and when and in what state of  she would return in , and finally when my sister moved out and my Mother left my father, it was just me, dealing with a situation I didn't know how to fix and was too ashamed to talk about.

So in these opening chapters of Natasha's book, when we see Sam on the staircase landing flipping the lights on and off to wake up her dad who has passed out in his food, I felt something break and release inside of me, and then of course tears.

Lush is such an important book. After completing the  book I'm baffled at how someone could find it offensive. Lush is a truthful, non-judgemental exploration of how one Parents addiction impacts an entire family. 

I was Sam at 13. Filled with anger, fear, and incredibility at every ones decision to not look at the huge pink drunk elephant in the room.

Lush needs to thrive in the world for the millions of Samantha's who are living in similar situations. Though Sam finds the strength to ask for advice from a High School student in the book, many girls and boys don't know how or who to ask for help.  Lush could be a lifeline for teens and a pathway for reaching out for help.
