Review: Trouble in the Tarot by Kari Lee Townsend
PUBLISHER:
I read. A LOT! :) Many of those books are series and by the third book in a series there are several things I look for that determine if I will continue my journey with the Author/Characters:
Do I remember the characters and situations?
Is their significant growth in the characters?
Do I want to read more about the characters lives?
Well this new entry in the Fortune Teller Mystery series gets a resounding yes to all three of the above questions.
From the opening pages I was able to slip back into Sonny's world. Her business in Divinity is booming, she has solid friendships in the community and maybe something more with Detective Mitch Stone.
The town of Divinity is in the midst of preparation for the Summer Solstice Carnival. The Carnival brings tourists and also an old rival of Sunny’s Granny Gert: Fiona.
Fiona and her traveling companions upheld all of granny’s plans. The enter all the events that Granny usually thrives in and the verbal barbs between Fiona and Granny escalate every day. No one in town expects the two to settle their feud easily but neither did the expect to find a local baker dead underneath the wheels of Granny Gerts car! Now the two rivals are under house arrest under Sunny’s roof while the local police force search for the truth.
Sunny however can’t stop herself from her own investigation even though it strains her and Mitch's already rocky relationship. Sunny needs all her intuitive powers and the help of a few associates to figure out the real killer, but time is running short and all roads still point towards her grandmother.
I easily slid back into the characters lives in this book. Kari did a great job of setting up the main story and leaving countless clues so the suspects really add up. I had know idea how it was going to turn out and was surprised a the culprit! With all mystery series their is a challenge in creatively inserting a victim with each new book but Kari found a creative way around it in this book and delivered another suspect that will really surprise the reader. I did wish there was a little bit more romance for Sunny this time around but it seems that there is some great things coming for the couple in the future.
What drew me to this series initially was the prospect of seeing an accurate portrayal of intuitive and psychic work and Kari continues with that in this installment. There is a great opportunity in these books to cast aside some misconception about intuitive tools and its great to see Kari’s ability to educate the general layperson with Sunny’s character.
An enjoyable read!
