Reading Liesel's novel, what stood out most to me was her subtle world building. What's exciting for a reader : stepping into a new universe, might be difficult for an author. Especially when dealing with alternate histories.

So while Elle Chance's story begins in a Paris that seems reminiscent of our own past, it is populated with fairies, warlocks,
Alchemists and many other avatars of light and dark.

It's a lot to take in. But within a few pages the readers focus centers around Elle.

For 1903 Elle is not the norm. Though change is happening in women's roles at this time , Elle's piloting of a dirigible is considered shocking by many.

Elle is determined to succeed though and takes many measures to keep her independence. This includes taking her payments in jewels and taking unusual cargo.

A simple transport gone wrong brings Elle to much danger and attention. It also brings Mr. Marsh into her world.

Marsh is a man of magic and danger. His entry into Elle's life brings her restrictions she strongly struggled against, an unwanted yet undeniable attraction and a revelation about herself she never imagined.

This was such a pleasurable read. It's one of those books that smoothly ties you into the lives and struggles of the characters.

I loved the logical progression of the story, nothing was forced or rushed just a pleasant unfolding :)

A fine start to a series
