Fangirl Summer Author Spotlight: Jeffrey Brown : Star Wars Jedi Academy
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for a review
PUBLISHER:
In this chapter book Jeffrey Brown takes the humor from his Darth Vader and Son book and combines it with an illustrated journal by a jedi padawan. The book stars Roan Navachez a young farmer boy on Tatooine. Roan has just finished primary school and is anxiously waiting for his approval to Pilot Academy Middle School. Roan has wanted to be a pilot since his earliest memories. He has been drawing pictures of starships and pilots for years. So Roan is crushed when he receives a rejection letter from the Pilot school and a suggestion to join the local Agricultural school.
Roan feels trapped until a few days later when he receives a letter of acceptance to the Jedi Academy signed by Master Yoda. Soon Roan joins a group of padawans with more expertise and study time. Roan struggles to fit in and spends his days drawing a journal of all his experiences.
This was such a sweet, fun book! Perfect for Star Wars fans of all ages the book seamlessly switches from narrative chapters to diary entries and illustrated pages. I enjoyed Roan’s journey throughout the year. His friendship with Yoda encourages him to find reservoirs of strength he wasn't sure he possessed. A quick yet satisfying read. I would love to see this develop into a popular series.
