This is the origin story in the Highland Guard series and boy did I loooove it! There is something wonderful about being taken away by a good historical romance! This novel focus on Tor MacLeod a warlord who doesn't want to be involved in the struggles between Robert The Bruce and England. Yet fate has different plans as Christina Fraser enters his life. Soon not only does Tor find himself married to Christina but also in charge of secretly training a group of soldiers to be a tactical force against the English occupiers.

I loved the romance between Tor and Christina. There is white hot passion between them easily, its love that comes harder and I really liked the path they took to get there. Christina’s character was wonderful. No fainting damsel here! It was also nice to meet the rest of the guard whose individual stories will be shared later in the series.

I read this book in a day and was late for a few appointments as I burned through the pages to see how it all turned out. I’m  really looking forward to the other books in the series.
