Charis succeeds on a lot of levels as a middle grade read. The main character is a smart resourceful girl in a difficult situation. Charis has  Days to save mankind. All of the mythological stories she has read are true. The Gods require her to take a dangerous trip to release the last trapped energy in the jar: Hope. In her quest Charis has the help of her best friend and the support of key Gods. Yet there are also dark forces trying to stop her including Hades and the Erinyes Sisters.

I decided to review this book based on the mythological elements and I was pleased with Nicole’s modern interpretations. This book is definitely for middle grade readers and an entertaining read. Charis’s  interactions with Gabe,  the less pleasant aspects of her classmates, and the darker Gods is handled very well and have many positive lessons.

I’m more partial to YA reads but this was a satisfying diversion :)
