Creepy Christmas: Put a Little Chill In Your Holiday Season
One of my favorite things about Holiday weekends is to binge read and have Netflix watchathons :) Here are some things I’ll be reading and watching all this weekend and next week:
Unputdownables is kicking off the New Year with a Flowers In The Attic Readalong. I’ve been meaning to get to this series for a long time so I’m excited to read an discuss it with the other participants.
I read this graphic novel and short story every year. It’s a perfect blend of horror and humor. I usually re-read the short story that is a part of Clive’s Books of blood series, then I read the graphic novel adaption. Bolton’s art is a wonderful compliment to the story and Niles does a masterful script from Barker’s original story.
The Jeremiah Hunt Chronicles
This series continues to be a wonderful blend of Horror and mystery. The series began with Eyes to See where we meet Jeremiah and witness the sacrifices he has made to try to find his son. Watcher of the Dark is the third book in the series but it is possible to follow along without reading the prior book. In this volume Hunt is recovering from the events in book two and formatting a plan to save the soul of a woman who has saved him in the past. The narrative is crisp and the elements of the underworld are consistently scary! Think of the literary equivalent of an episode of supernatural with and older tortured protagonist.
Joe Hill is one of my favorite horror writers. Hill also has had success in the comic book world with the series Locke & Key and his new release NOS4A2 has a mini-series tie in that introduces readers to one of the books darkest characters and gives readers a visual look at Christmasland, which isn't as inviting as it sounds. The first two issues of the comic are now available along with the Hardcover and E-book editions of NOS4A2.
Netflix
I’ve had good intentions toward watching Dead Zone for years and so I’ll be starting the series this weekend.
Before Doctor Who, a creator named Stephen Moffat was behind this retelling of the Jekyll & Hyde story. It’s dark, sexy and shocking, I can’t wait to watch it all over again.
Happy Holidays & Sweet Dreams!
