This book came into my life because of a class I’m taking :

Social Issues Through Comic Books

This is a free course offered through the Canvas Network. You can learn about the course and sign up for free HERE.

The first module of the course focuses on Addiction and this series was a required read. Buzzkill takes a premise that some may think of as a joke : A young man finds that drinking alcohol, drugs, or any other stimulant like coffee or nicotine gives him Superpowers.

Entering rehab under an assumed name our hero begins his journey through the 12 Steps program. However he must balance the desire for sobriety against the good he does as a hero & preparing to fight off his Rogues gallery without his powers.

This book really looks closely at the nature of addiction. The weakness inherent in addiction is fully explored with humor and no shortage of angst.

I really enjoyed this story. The art is great and the writer does not go for the easy “happy ending”.

A wonderful read! I’m looking forward to seeing more of Donny’s work.
