I requested this book because I’m a fan of Cory’s and I loved the female protagonist. This story is a great introduction to the online gaming world and showcases the community that draws a lot of players into it. When Anda is invited to join a guild on probationary status she finds she has a natural capacity for the game. When she is invited by a fellow guild member to join her in a job that pays real world money, she jumps at the chance.
The job is to “kill” gold farmers, people who have avatars that spend hours collecting goods that they then sell to payers who can afford the items.
One day however Anda learns that one of these players is actually a poor kid from China whose livelihood depends on what he sells.
It is definitely a clash in cultures especially when Anda tries to apply western philosophies to problems she has no real concept of.
I really loved the art in this book and how Cory spotlighted something that is very prevalent in the gaming community. It was also great to see a female lead in a graphic novel.
