Review: Primates by Ottaviani & Wicks
Source:
Library Book
This book could be titled a light scientific look at three women whose love for primates led to them working with the animals of their dreams and gaining scientific insight and personal satisfaction. Jane Goodall , Dian Fossey and Birute Galdikas all meet Louis Leakey at important times in their careers. Leaky had a reputation for being more than a mentor to some of his female assistants but the book barely scratches the surface of this and it gives the impression that these three women were not romantically involved with him.
The star of this book is the art by Maris Wicks. Maris has a wonderful bright artistic style. Each woman is given a unique look and the jungle scenes and primates are gorgeous to look at. However the story was lacking. The story felt more like a regurgitation of facts then a detailed character study of the women.
The book even acknowledges this by giving a very detailed list of books about the women to seek out. Ok overall. The best thing about this book is that it urges you to search out more info on the ladies.
