The wonderful thing about Batman Beyond is the combination of futuristic themes combined with the characters we know and love from the original Batman series. In 10,000 Clowns we see the evolution of the Joker’s legacy: violent street gangs that commit crimes across the world. These gangs are now converging on Gotham causing a tremendous amount of theft and physical harm to Gotham’s residents.
Terry McGinnis is overwhelmed physically by the constant fighting, and emotionally due to his conflicts with Bruce Wayne. This story line also has some great subplots with Terry’s estranged girlfriend Dana, who finds the Jokerz leader is closer than she knows and Maxine Gibson who has been working with Bruce to infiltrate a hacker group.
There are wonderful action scenes balanced with emotional scenes that showcase the complicated relationships between Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon. The art is stunning and consistently good throughout the book. This is a reprint of the stories from Batman Beyond Unlimited 1-13 and is a stand alone read.
