Middle Grade Spotlight: Batman: Catwoman's Nine Lives by Manning & Vecchio

This book is a great blend of a chapter book and a comic book. The story centers around Catwoman and her complicated relationship with batman. After a successful robbery and escape from Batman, Catwoman finds that the Penguin has broken into her apartment. He blackmails her to perform some errands for him leaving Selina between a rock and a hard place. I really love how Vecchio portrays Batman and Catwoman. His style is gothic yet beautiful and he manages to not over sexualize her.

I loved seeing the Penguin as well and the ventriloquist. A great chapter book for independent readers. The prose and comic book portions of the story also flow seamlessly together.
