Monsterrific Tales Spotlight: The Gloomy Ghost by David Lubar
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I’ve really enjoyed watching this series develop. In the fifth book in the series we get young Rory’s story. Rory is the little brother of Sebastian and Angie who spent some time as a witch in one of Lubar’s previous stories. I loved Rory’s narrative “voice” Lubar does a great job getting into the head of a young boy. Rory’s adventure starts with his inquisitive nature leading him to upgrade the families Television. It goes horribly wrong and Rory runs and hides, realizing he is “dead” when his parents find out. Rory hides outside and eats some poisoned berries that bring his dire prophecy to truth: Rory becomes a ghost as his body fights to survive.
Seeking help Rory goes to a local haunted house trying to connect with fellow ghosts. He also runs afoul of a ghost hunter and a fraudulent psychic. Rory is strong beyond his years as he comes up with a plan to let his family find his body and treat his poisoning.
A really nice read. This is definitely an all ages series but really great for middle grade readers and family readalongs.
This is my 41st book for Coyer Summer vacation
