Review: Grace And The Guiltless by Erin Johnson
This is the second book I’ve read from Switch Press and it was an interesting read. Set in the American Frontier, we meet Grace and the Milton family hard at work on their homestead. Barely 14 pages into this novel and tragedy strikes. The family farm is overtaken by a land hungry gang who murders the entire family when the father refuses to transfer his land to the gang.
Grace however survives since she was accidentally stuck in the root cellar. After burying her family Grace vows to get vengeance on the entire gang. It’s not an easy task for a young orphaned girl. Yet Grace’s quest for revenge burns in her heart giving her the will to move on.
Yet when Grace meets a young traveler named Joe she sees another choice for her life, one that she is not anxious to grasp.
I loved how the book got into the main story themes really quickly and Graces strength however the book seemed to loose focus for a bit. I don't know if there is a sequel planed for this book but I found the ending a little too ambiguous.
However there is very good writing here and characters teens and adults can relate too. Especially the choice between revenge and peace.
Overall though it was an interesting, and quick read.
This is my 59th book for Coyer Summer Vacation
