Poe is credited with creating the Detective story, so it was an interesting story element to see him work on a murder mystery. This volume opens with Poe in deep mourning for his deceased wife, while also dealing with some  hellish hallucinations. When Poe’s brother comes to visit him in his seclusion he ends up joining him in solving a murder involving the Red Death.

There was lots of action and suspense in the story.I really enjoyed the gothic illustrations and the little Easter Eggs planted through out the story. There were several references to Poe’s work peppered through out the story and everything was tied up very neatly in the end. I was happy to discover this graphic novel on my library’s  comic plus site.
