HallowReads Review: American Monsters by Linda S.Godfrey
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for a review.
Across the United States there are Myths and Legends about monsters. Told from generation to generation, America has a rich history of things that go bump in the night, By Land, Sea and Air this compendium by Linda S. Godfrey is a treasure trove of research and compilation of stories from across the USA.
Penguin had me at Monsters when this review opportunity came in. I devoured this book in three days! I loved learning the background of many fantastic stories and also learning about creatures I hadn't heard of before. The sheer abundance of eyewitness accounts was amazing as was the consistency amongst witnesses.
My favorite creatures were the giant bird Big Claw, The Blue Dogs, Moth Men, Chupacabras, and Sasquatches. Godfrey knows her stuff. She has done extensive research including eyewitness accounts, links to various articles and witness illustrations.
The reader is given enough facts to form their own opinions. I loved the variety of stories and locales, I’m a firm believer in where there is smoke there is fire. The consistency in sightings makes me a believer! This book is definitely a resource I will revisit again and again. A great read.
