This is the 6th book in Lubar’s Moneterrific Tales. Each book in this series gets better and better. What I liked most about this volume was its focus on bullying issues. Like the books before this the main character comes across something (or someone) that forces a monstrous change upon him.
In this volume Lud Mellon is bitten by a swarm of bugs from a spoiled box of cereal. Soon Lud is climbing walls, eating leaves and turning into a giant bug. In his desperation Lud turns to two boys who have a bit of experience with monsterous changes: Sebastian and Norman. Sebastian spent some time transformed into a vampire and Norman found himself in the ultimate hairy situation when he was a werewolf. The only problem is both these boys have been victims of Lud’s bullying ways. Will the two boys be able to forget the past and help a bully? Or will Lud be trapped in the form of a bug forever?
I really enjoyed this book. Lubar is really good at writing for the middle grade genre. Though these books may seem to be only for boys, they cover important themes that boys and girls will love, especially if the are monster fans. Also two of the books in the series feature female protagonists,
including the first in the series Hyde and Shriek.
These books are always such a treat! I get excited every time one comes in my mailbox from Tor.
