Non-Fiction Spotlight: How To Eat by Thich Nhat Hanh
For many of us the New Year brings resolutions involving weight loss and nutrition. This book of meditations from the Monk Thich Nhat Hanh, gives guidance and information about the emotional, and spiritual elements of eating. Each page shares stories and tips on bringing silence, gratitude and community to your meals. One of the habits I’ve taken away from this book is to not distract myself with Television, or even reading while having a meal.
Giving true focus to your meal aligns you with the energetic nature of the meals we eat. Taking a few breaths, or even saying a blessing before eating is a way to bring conscious attention to what and how much you are consuming. There is also a lot of time devoted to bringing gratitude to you meals. From Sun and Rain to the workers who harvest and prepare food, slowing down during your meals encourages Gratitude for all elements of your life.
This is a wonderful read. I’m challenging myself to read various passages in the book daily before my meals.
