Today's Star Wars : 1 Age Of Republic Darth Maul

Age of Republic: Darth Maul kicks off a multi issue series that will spotlight characters throughout the major story arcs, of all three trilogies. I've become a huge fan of Houser"s  Star Wars work and was very interested in seeing how this epic series of stories would unfold.  The title of this story is Ash and it follows a disguised Maul join a job with Zek Piero on a mission for the Kaitis Cartel in the lower depths of Coruscant. Maul is drawn to Zek because he believes him to have some force potential. A potential  Maul can quench his thirst for jedi blood on.  I struggled with this story. Mostly because I didn't feel like it offered anything about Maul that hadn't been covered in Cullen Bunn and Luke Ross's recent mini-series that was recently released in a trade paperback, Both of the stories cover the same time periods, before Maul's debut in The Phantom Menace. Someone who hasn't read any Maul in the new canon would find this story interesting, and enjoy the stunning art by Ross and his team.   I will be checking out the other stories in Age of Republic, but I'm a bit disappointed that Padme wasn't chosen to be the star of one of these one-shots.
