Star Wars Book Chat Day 17: Guardians Of The Whills

There are Star Wars books that everyone universally loves  ( I will never get tired of the the variety of fans who say "I don't like YA, But OMG Lost Stars!!!"), and  books that sometimes are under the radar of a casual fans notice.

Guardians is I book I often mention to Rogue One fans and many are surprised to learn Baze and Chirrut  have a novel of their own. This book explores the life of Baze and Chirrut prior to meeting Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor. The reader gets immersed in the life of Imperial occupation on Jedha, a city Holy to many that has been stripped of its treasures. Baze and Chirrut are trying to make a difference in the lives of their fellow citizens struggling under occupation.

When Saw Gerrera arrives the pair feel a resurgence of hope at his grand plans for liberation. But as events unfold they realize the price of Saw's plans may cost the locals more then living under Imperial control.

I really enjoyed getting more time with these characters. Rucka really get us inside the heads and hearts of the pair, this story gives readers a richer appreciation of their friendship and it's enjoyable seeing them succeed against the Imperials without compromising their beliefs.

There is also some beautiful quotes and poetry excerpts through out this novel, I have scribbled so many of Chirrut's phrases down  in my journals because they are so inspiring.
