Star Wars Book Chat Day 19: The Ladies of Last Jedi Are Given What they deserve Between the Pages

The Last Jedi brings a lot of thoughts and feelings to any discussion about it. Some of them are gigantic hills that fans choose to die on. But before we knew what the film would give us we knew about the publishing imitative that was attached to the film, and it was gloriously female focused.

Paige and Rose Tico are unique in that they grew up together, fought to escape their home planet together and joined the Resistance together. Orphans and family secrets are a staple of Star Wars, so it was interesting to see two siblings enter the Resistance together. There are three books exploring their journey together, and Cobalt Squadron is not only written by Best-Selling author Elizabeth Wein but the audio version is voiced by Kelly Marie Tran.

Paige Tico lacked a significant voice in The Last Jedi. Who knows what scenes might lay on the cutting room floor, but her presence in the film is a strong  due to excellent styling and the emotional acting of Ngo Thanh Van. Jason Fry gives us a glimpse into Paige's heart and dreams in Bomber Command, a journal that educates us on the intricacies o the Bomber Squadron and the fighters that fly them.

Justin gives us the same insights into Rose Tico in the book Resistance Fighter.

Phasma was one of the most surprising and thrilling origin stories in the New Canon. You think you know Phasma? You DON'T! This book also introduces us to Resistance spy Vi Moradi and the Crimson trooper Cardinal.

My four favorite words : Claudia Gray & Star War. This book grabs your heart and doesn't let go. In this novel we see the foundations of the Rebel Alliance and Leia's place in it. We also see the strength of a family formed by choice and love is just as strong as the bonds of blood relations.

These books are are so dear to me and I often return to them for inspiration and entertainment. The galaxy is expanding. Though personally The Last Jedi failed to connect with me in some ways there are still parts of it I love and these books elevate the experience of the film for me in many ways.
