Review 8 Billion Genies Issue 5 by Charles Soule & Ryan Browne
Book Stats:8 issue mini series Image Comics
Creatives : Charles Soule, Ryan Browne, Chris Krank, Kevin Knipstein, Erika Schnatz
Time is a core feature in the storytelling of 8 Billion Genies and I am surprised how quickly we have arrived here at issue 5. This issues main focuses is on the events leading up to the 8th month after G-day,the event when everyone on Earth got one genie and one wish. We have seen a lot of repercussions from giving humans such power over the past few months, and in this issue we see that some man or woman just wanted to see the world burn. And it has.
For those remaining in the safe haven in St. Clair Shores, Michigan it's a time to reflect, wait, worry, and learn a bit more about the genies themselves.
This story also tells us more about the journey of Floyd Faughn who some might call the Idea Man and his community Hope's Hollow.
Young Robbie hopes this might be the safe space he has been trying to find for his family. It is definetly a community that operates around a strong belief in it's charasmatic leader. It's all going to be fine just fine right?!
I spend a lot of time between a lot of pages but 8BG continues to be a book I continually think about and count the the days between issues. It's the essence of what comics story telling can be. Art and Words, Words and Art this story achieves its impact because of both. I'm also a huge fan of the pacing of the story overall and how Charle's script's have just the right amount of information to keep you updated with what has come before in the story and answer the readers questions about how the genies powers work. These important touches really help the reader just enjoy the story as it unfolds.
This issue ends with an Exodus of sorrts and I really excited to see where the story goes next. That Floyd guy though, I'm having a bad feeling about him.
